The Short Version :)
I was raised in a Christian family and accepted Jesus into my heart somewhere along the line, and I've always had a relationship with the Father. I was super active in my church and sang on the worship team and taught a number of discipleship classes.
Derek got saved when he was 19, and got involved with Church and almost even became a Pastor (we always joke that I would have made a great pastor's wife!). For both of us though, even though we had said the prayer, and were both fully committed in our churches and involved in ministry, it was never really what we expected it to be.
On my part, it became harder and harder to tell the difference between the life I was living before I knew the Lord and my life as a believer. And on the other side of the world, Derek was struggling with reconciling what the world said Christianity was, and what He was reading in the Bible.
Eventually, we both learned that the abundant life promised by Jesus can't exist without us investing our hearts into knowing Him more, learning to hear His voice, and living according to the truth of His Word. One thing His Word promises to do is to reveal Him and His will to those who seek Him. So the Father drew us both back towards truth, and eventually to each other.
"And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. | Jeremiah 29:13There is only one way to the Father, and that is through accepting Jesus as our Lord and Savior, but it doesn't end there. To fully live life the way the Father intended, we have to walk the path that He set out for us, and that's what we hope to do everyday - search His Word with all of our hearts, love Him with all we are, and dig deep wells that out kids and future family can draw from.
We hope to share what we're learning along the way. Check out the detailed version of the Derek's testimony here :-)
